Mobile Telecoms Operator – Eastern Europe

Customer Success Story

When one of our customers, a very large Mobile Operator in Eastern Europe, completed an acquisition of another mobile operator, this resulted in a requirement to collect and process call record files from telecoms switches in 23 additional regions across Russia. Furthermore, call and data volumes were projected to increase 300% owing to the new entity having a customer base in excess of 53 million subscribers.

In addition to meeting business requirements to deliver files between switches and the customer’s business support systems and mobile virtual operator (MVNO) partners, the solution had to deliver copies of all call files to government security agencies within extremely strict deadlines.

Wizuda Case Studies

The existing systems in use were a combination of in-house developed products working with a large number of bespoke manual scripts that didn’t have the scalability to deal with the increase in volumes and requirements. After a commercial tender process, they decided to use the Wizuda product as a central hub for collecting and processing this data from its technical operations centre.

Wizuda worked closely with the customer in identifying all requirements for capacity, growth and performance requirements and then recommending a hardware configuration and coordinating with the technical team on-site on the implementation and build in a new virtualised (VMWare) and fully redundant environment.

The system has been operating successfully since 2016. The customer is now the third largest telecom operator in Europe, and Wizuda DMaaP is currently responsible for the transfer of over 2.1 million files per month containing approximately 1.8 TB of data and over 8 billion individual call detail records.

Wizuda now collects all call data records, in non-standard data format, from various switch locations in 67 of Russia’s 85 regions and then carries out data transformation of all files to a standard output format before delivery upstream to the customer’s billing and fraud systems, government agencies, and MVNO partners.
